MECHANICAL PROCESSES IN BIOPROCESS ENGINEERING

Course ID: NBT/BŻ-SE>PRMECH
Course title: MECHANICAL PROCESSES IN BIOPROCESS ENGINEERING
Semester: 4 / Spring
ECTS: 7
Lectures/Classes: 30 / 45 hours
Field of study: Biotechnology
Study cycle: 1st cycle
Type of course: optional
Prerequisites: mathematics, physics
Contact person: dr Marta Pasławska marta.paslawska@upwr.edu.pl
Short description: The course covers fundamental problems connected with principles of apparatus and technologies in biotechnological industry and process parameters calculations. Bioproducts production deals with mechanical fluid transport , heat transport and diffusive processes, therefore students are going to know the equipment and measurement stages used for processing.
Full description: Rheology and flow of biotechnological media, hydrodynamics of biomass aeration, stirring of liquids in bioreactors. Special types of liquid-movement: sedimentation, filtration, centrifugation, two- and three-phase flow, layer flow, fluidization. Basic principles of heat and mass transport. Transformation of technical parameters from a small to a large scale.
